Frequently Asked Questions
What is eSign Emcee?
A server-based electronic signature system that allows any user to sign any PDF from anywhere in the world through a supported browser or mobile app interface.
How do I sign? What are my choices?
eSign Emcee simultaneously supports biometric electronic signature pads from Topaz Systems, as well as iOS and Android mobile devices, and non-biometric digital "click-to-sign" options.
Can I sign on my mobile device (iPad, iPhone, or Android)?
Yes, signing on Apple products is supported through the iEmcee app, and signing on Android products is supported through the Emcee app, via electronic handwritten signatures and click-to-sign. Signing is also available through the Topaz bluetooth wireless signature pad that can be connected to your iPad, iPhone, or Android device.
My company develops enterprise software applications. Can I integrate eSign Emcee into our application for resale to our customers?
Yes, developers and systems integrators can build eSign Emcee into their applications.
Who hosts the software?
eSign Emcee software is designed to be hosted in a variety of applications and environments. You may use it to build your own signature service that operates on either the public Internet or in your company's private intranet. Topaz currently hosts a demo service on the Amazon Cloud.
Do eSign Emcee's software modules have to be installed on different dedicated servers?
No, they can be installed on the same server or different servers; the system is scalable.
What kind of documents are supported, and where do they come from?
eSign Emcee supports PDF signing using documents that can come from anywhere.
Do PDF documents have to be created by eSign Emcee?
No, eSign Emcee can receive PDF documents that have already been created.
How does eSign Emcee import my PDF documents?
Emcee Web Services ceremony creation supports import/download of PDF documents via FTP, HTTP, and as inline data to Web Service Calls.
Is my signature actually saved inside the PDF document?
Yes, signatures are embedded in the PDF within a digital signature field.
Are PDFs loaded locally onto the client device?
No, all documents reside on the server and are accessed by the clients through a browser, the Apple iEmcee app, or the Android Emcee app.
Can I change a signature field from click-to-sign method to signature pad?
Yes, a click signature can be changed to a mobile signature or a pad signature. A pad signature can be changed to a mobile signature and vice versa. However, a mobile signature or pad signature cannot be changed to a click signature because the click signature does not provide the biometric information inherent in mobile and pad signatures.
What is a signing ceremony?
A collection of documents with assigned signature spots and any rules governing how they must be signed, or in what order (if desired).
How do you access a signing ceremony?
Any user may connect to eSign Emcee and sign using a browser from anywhere in the world. Users can also access ceremonies using the iEmcee app on their Apple mobile device or using the eSign Emcee Android app on their Android mobile device. In addition, the eSign Emcee web service is capable of issuing authentication tickets so that host applications can directly launch the signing ceremony bypassing user authentication.
What browsers are supported?
Electronic handwritten signatures and "click-to-sign" options are available on Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 or later, Mozilla Firefox 36.0.4 or later, and Google Chrome 41.0 or later.
